STATE ACTION COMMITTEE ON AIDS is charged with the
responsibilities:

To promote a state, national, regional international multi-sectoral
mobilization for HIV/AIDS prevention and management
• To Coordinate all multi-sectoral HIV/AIDS activities in the
state.
• To act as supervisory body to Local Action Committees on AIDS
(LACA) in the state.
• To increase awareness and sensitization among the general population
and strategically targeted stakeholders
• To promote behavioural and attitudinal changes in both low and
high risk population
• To promote a state, national, regional, international understanding
and acceptance of the principle that all persons must accept responsibility
for the prevention of HIV prevention
• To ensure that communities are properly empowered to conceptualize,
design and initiate community-specific action plans for the prevention
and management of HIV/AIDS
• To ameliorate/remove human impediments, financial, religious,
cultural and informational barriers to HIV/AIDS prevention and management
• To develop and implement a multi-disciplinary institutional
framework and legal mechanisms for HIV/AIDS prevention, control and
management.
• To develop and prescribe standards and guidelines leading to
the institutionalization of global best practices in caring, giving,
management and support to people infected by HIV/AIDS.
• To implement the activities of the state plan and National plan
using a decentralized and participatory people-oriented approaches/methodology
