THE COMMISSIONER FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Dr
Ronald Eyime was
born on Sunday 1st January 1956 in Utagba ogbe, Kwale in Ndokwa West
Local Government of Delta State.
He attended the CMS Primary School, Kwale and Mater Dei Grammar School
in Ashaka, Delta State, He obtained a Bachelor of Science Hons degree
in Optometry with a Second Class Upper Division from the University
of Benin, and also a Dr. Eyime holds the fellowship of the Nigerian College of Optometrists (F.N.C.O) in Public Health/Community Optometry. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian OptometricAssociation (F.N.O.A). On completion of his NYSC at the Lagos General Hospital, he was appointed Managing Director/Consultant Optometrist Rodway Ophthalmic. He later moved on to Tripod Ophthalmic Limited from where he was appointed Registrar/Chief Executive of the Optometric and Dispensing opticians Board of Nigeria. At various times, he was Chairman E-zed Mortgage Finance Ltd and Ronzy Nigeria Ltd. Dr. Eyime as a young professional graduate single handedly led his colleagues in the political struggle which led to the promulgation of decree 34 of 1989, the Optometry Legislation establishing the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board of Nigeria. In recognition of his singular role in the promulgation of the Optometry Legislation, the Federal Government appointed Dr Ronald Eyime as the pioneer Registrar and Chief Executive of the Optometric and Dispensing Opticians Board of Nigeria, a position he still holds today breaking the record of being the longest serving Registrar of any Professional Board in Nigeria. this capacity, Dr Ronald Eyime took Nigeria to the Professional World Body. Since 1991 till date he has attended all the International Optometric and Optical League (100L) and World Council of Optometry (WCO) general delegates meeting all over the world as the leader of the Nigerian and African delegation. As a passionate patriot, Dr. Ronald Eyime has brought glory and honour to Nigeria through his exemplary accomplishments. Indeed Dr. Ronald Eyime has single handedly taken the profession of Optometry in Nigeria and Africa to great heights as the only African delegate to these global meetings from 1991 to 1995. In recognition of his global role in the development of Optometry, Dr Ronald Eyime was appointed member of a 5-man Task Force that developed the blue print which led to the formation of the world Council of Optometry (W.C.O). Dr. Eyime was an executive committee of the IOOL from 1991 - 1995 and Chairman of the Public Health and Development Committee of the WCO from 1998 - 2004. In the year 2000. Dr Ronald Eyime was elected the first President of African Council of Optometry. He was able to get the WHO to recognize the World Council of Optometry. Dr. Eyime is a very highly respected member of the World Council of Optometry as well as its associates, like the International Agency for the prevention of Blindness and the W.H.O. Dr Ronald Eyime's strings of professional achievements and accomplishments single him out as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize. He was unanimously declared the World Optometrist of the year 2003. From 1991 till date, Dr. Ronald Eyime has been leading the Nigerian delegates to the annual general delegates meeting of the World Council of Optometry (WCO). As a worthy ambassador, he has been able to represent Nigeria in the Global body's meetings in Spain, Norway, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Israel, USA, UK, South Africa, Brazil, Canada, Greece, Finland, India and Japan. Dr. Ronald Eyime was a member of the National Advisory Committee on Health 1931 -1998.
