State gets new Police Commissioner
|

A new Commissioner
of Police, Mr. Yakubu Adamu Alkali has been appointed for the State Command
of the Nigeria Police Force. Governor Emmanuel
Uduaghan while receiving the new Commissioner yesterday at Government
House, Asaba, urged him to strive to surpass the achievement of his predecessor,
Mr. Jacob Oshiomogho who is retiring after thirty-five years of service. The Governor pointed out that the Commissioner of Police was assuming duty at a time the State was facing security challenges as a result of the on-going military operations in the Niger Delta. Dr. Uduaghan who described
Delta State as Police friendly, emphasized government's resolve to support
the police and other security agencies in the performance of their duties. The new Commissioner
of Police, Mr. Yakubu Alkali thanked Governor Uduaghan for supporting
his predecessor and appealed that same should be extended to him. Earlier,
the retiring Commissioner of Police, Mr. Oshiomogho introduced the new
Commissioner of Police to the Governor and expressed gratitude. for his
support which aided his success in the State. The new Commissioner of Police Mr. Yakubu Alkali holds a masters degree in strategic studies from the University of Ibadan. Until his new assignment, he was the Commissioner of Police in charge of Research and Planning, Force Headquarters, Abuja. Government House Correspondent Jeyere Ugbeye reports that the new commissioner of Police was accompanied on the visit by the new Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Simeon Midinda and many others. The new Commissioner
of Police, Yakubu Adamu Alkali has assumed duty at the Delta State Police
Command Headquarters, Asaba. Yakubu Adamu Alkali takes over from Jacob
Oshiomogho currently on pre retirement leave and will disengage in August. Police Commissioner
Alkali is a fresh graduate of the National Defence College Abuja and was
formerly Police Commissioner Department of Research and Planning at the
Police Headquarters, Abuja. He
hails from Niger State has worked in various capacities in the Nigeria
Police force. Meanwhile, the retiring State Commissioner of Police Mr. Jacob Oshiomogho today handed over the mantle of leadership of the command to the new Mr Yakubu Adamu Alkali with a call on officers and men of the command to be loyal and committed to duty. |

Imo
State Government commends Delta State Micro Credit Scheme

Governor Emmanuel
Uduaghan and his Executive Assistant on Micro Credit, Dr. Antonia Ashiedu
have been commended by the Imo State government for using the programme
to alleviate poverty among economically weak Deltans. The commendation was
made yesterday by the Special Adviser to the lmo State Governor on Finance
and Accounts, Mr. Kerian Onwuzuruike and Mr. Henry Opara a member of the
Imo State Micro Credit Committee when they paid a courtesy call on the
Executive Assistant to the Governor on Micro Credit Programme, Dr. Antonia
Ashiedu. They said the visit
was to identify with the programme and encourage the State government
to sustain the poverty alleviation project. The visitors said
the award presented to Governor Uduaghan by the Central Bank of Nigeria
in January at Abuja for excellent performance in the micro credit programme
was a testimony that the Uduaghan administration has the interest of the
people at heart. While saying that
the lmo State government was ready to tap into the programme, they said
the two States would cross fertilize ideas on how to mitigate poverty. They said the uniqueness
of the Micro-Credit programme was because it is community based and not
by political patronage, The Executive Assistant
to the Governor on Micro Credit, Dr. Ashiedu who said she was elated with
the encomiums showered on the programme, said the governor has been instrumental
to the successes recorded in affecting the lives of Deltans. She said her office
has been working with micro finance banks to disburse loans to cluster
groups approved by the Scheme, stressing that the Delta/Oceanic Micro
Credit Scheme Account was floated to assist. The Commissioner for
Health, Dr Joseph Otumara has called on Health workers in the State to
ensure that the State Health care delivery system is given a boost. Dr. Otumara who was
represented by director,Planning Research and Statistics, Mrs. Lilian
Okpako stated thisin Asaba, whIle declanng open a k th' /lnd Attitudinal
improvement of Health workers in Effective Health Care delivery. He said the training
programme was designed for participants to have effective management skill
in other to reposition the Health Ministry for greater productivity. Dr. Otumara said the Ministry has put in place appropriate technology in terms of provision of medical equipment, vehicles, computers as well as adequate infrastructural facilities for the fifty-six hospitals in the State. He said that human
capacity was central to the process of development, stressing that this
informed the Ministry's constant response to challenges and needs on staff
training and development so that there is no decline in productivity. Dr. Otumara commended
Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for creating the enabling environment for the
workshop, adding that the workshop will focus on the ethical values of
the medical profession, management of health institutions and facilities,
managing relationships in the hospital environment, work attitudes that
affect productivity, issues, time and stress management as well as information
Communication technology in Health care delivery. He expressed the hope that at the end of the workshop, participants would become better equipped to discharge their responsibilities with greater zeal, vigour and enthusiasm. |

Deltans
commend on-going removal of illegal structures in Urban Areas.

Prominent Deltans
have been commending the on-going removal of illegal structures by the
State Task Force on illegal structures in the Urban Areas of the State. Among them is the
former member of the Delta State House of Assembly Representing Ika North
East, Honourable Frank Nwaebo who commended the Task Force for a job well
done, stressing that the demolition exercise will bring sanity to the
capital city of Asaba. On his part, the Odogwu
of Ok pan am, ChiefP.A Dunkwu enjoined all to obey the laws of the State
by following the approved development plan highlighting that "Delta
is a State for civilized human beings and not an Animal Farm". |
