UDUAGHAN PLEDGES N.1BILLION FOR ANWAI CAMPUS OF DELSU
Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has said that the sum of N500
million would be provided in the 2009 budget, for the speedy completion
of the Faculty of Management Sciences Complex at Anwai Campus of the Delta
State University, Abraka.
Dr. Uduaghan who disclosed this during the fund raising dinner for the
building of the Faculty of Management Sciences Complex in the Anwai Campus,
Asaba, yesterday said his administration was committed to boosting education
in the state and creating a conducive learning environment.
He explained that he was determined to improve the learning condition
of students in the state?s higher institutions and as such would enhance
the speedy completion of the complex by providing for it in next year's
budget.
Governor Uduaghan commended the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof.) Chike Edozien
and Asaba Community for the initiative of developing the university through
their collective effort and assured them that his administration would
give them the needed support.
He disclosed that the state government was committed to developing Asaba
into a befitting capital and making it a major hub of economic activities
in the whole of Eastern Nigeria.
The Governor stated that the state government intends to sign a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) with a private developer to help develop the State
Capital by building a Shopping Complex and a Hotel opposite the Asaba
Airport.
He explained that the permanent site of Government House Asaba would be
completed in the next couple of months and called on Asaba Community to
co-operate with the government in making the town a befitting center for
economic activities.
Governor Uduaghan urged Asaba Youths to shun violence and resort to dialogue
in resolving land issues in the town and assured them that government
would look into all land issues being raised by the community.
ln a keynote address, the Asagba of Asaba Professor Chike Edozien said
the need for the fund raising arose due to the fact that the basic learning
facilities were lacking at Anwai Campus of Delta State University for
effective academic pursuit.
He explained that well meaning indigenes of Asaba decided to undertake
the renovation of dilapidated structures, building of the faculty of management
sciences complex and provision of other needed facilities to enhance effective
and modern learning environment.
