PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN

It could be said that the duties of the Office of the Head of Service is centred mainly on managing the Public Service and effectively implementing government programmes and policies.  Consequently, most projects executed by the office are geared towards uplifting the State Public Service.  These projects are highlighted below:

 

(i) Public Officers Housing and Vehicle Loan Schemes

These are revolving loan schemes approved by the State Government in April 2001 to improve the welfare of public servants in the State.  Since inception of the scheme, Government has released a total sum of N184, 142,345.38 as housing loan.  Out of this amount, N180, 311,375.65 has been expended as housing loans to 77 Public Officers.  Similarly, N74, 985.000.00 has so far been released as vehicle loans to 249 beneficiaries.

 

(ii)  The Delta Bureaucrat

Also in the year 2001 the State Government approved the establishment of a bi annual journal known as “The Delta Bureaucrat”.  This is in line with government determination to build a highly focused; result oriented and well informed public Service.  It is gratifying to note that three editions of this journal have so far been published.  The third edition is presently on sale.

 

(iii) Production of Digital ID Cards

In 1999, a contract was awarded for the production and issuance of ID-Card to the entire work force.  The contract sum was N11, 939,000.00.  The contract comprised three phases, namely:

  •  Restructuring of systems to accommodate image capturing facilities;

  •  Physical photographing of serving officers; and

  •  Procurement of ID-Card materials/Production of ID-Cards.

STAFF STRENGTH

The Staff strength of the Office of the Head of Service, which was 62 in 1999, is now 114.  Also the state workforce was 20,091 but grew to 36,435 in April 2003.  In effect 16,344 staff representing 81% was added to the workforce.
