Mr. Mofe-Damijo, Richard was born on the 6th of July, 1961. Until his recent appointment, he was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Entertainment/Talent development were he used his wealth of experience in the entertainment industry for the development of Delta State.
The Culture and Tourism Commissioner had his early education at Anglican Grammar School, Okpara Water side, Okpara from 1973- 1977 and at St. Patrick College, Asaba from 1978 - 1980 all in Delta State. He began his university education at the University of Benin where he obtained a BA Hons. in Theatre Arts from 1980 - 1983.
Mr. Mofe-Damijo love for education made him further his education where he bagged an LLB LAW degree and a year later, he proceeded to the Nigeria Law School where he obtained his B.L.
RMD, as the Commissioner is well known as, is a household name in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry. He is a youth ambassador and motivational speaker. He has appeared as a lead man in over a hundred (100) stage plays and four (4) major TV series on the Nigerian TV/Network.
He has also featured in over fifty (50) movie titles which include Violated, Scores to Settle, Suicide Mission, Diamond Ring, Out of Bound, Keeping Faith, Made in Heaven, The Mayors, Hostages, Love, legend, Glorified and The Harbinger to mention but a few.It is no surprise therefore that his excellent performance and professionalism has not got gone unnoticed as evidenced by the numerous awards he has gathered.
He was awarded the Best Nigeria Actor Award in the Afro Hollywood Awards for two years (1996 and 1999). In the same year 1999, he also won the Arts Person of the Year - Masters Awards and also Excellence in Acting and Fans Choice at the Hints Movie Awards. In the year before that, 1998, he bagged the Outstanding Young Person Awards from the Nigerian Junior Chamber.
He followed that by winning the Award for Excellence - Media Link and the Best Actor - Thema Movie Awards in the same year. He is also a recipient of the Filmmakers Association of Nigeria (FAN) Awards, USA ( 2004) and Africa Cultural Excellence Awards, Ekpoma (2005).
He is also an Honouree from the Dangote group in the "Be a millionaire promotion 2004" and also an Ambassador of Peace which was installed on him at the DELSU Achiever Merit Awards (2003). In the year 2004, he picked up the Best Actor and Movie Icon Award by the Teens favourite Awards and Nigerian entertainment Awards respectively. He also got a certificate of Appreciation from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in 2004.
The commissioner was a pioneer president of the National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP). He is also a member of various professional bodies which includes the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and Nigerian Institute of Management.
