UDUAGHAN EXPLAINS DELAY IN CONSTITUTING COUNCILS

Governor Uduaghan of Delta State has said that disagreement among leaders of some council areas was responsible for the delay in constitution of the Care Taker Committees for the Councils. Speaking while swearing in a new chairman for Ughelli South Local Government Council, Chief Vincent Otide, yesterday in Asaba , the Governor said that due to these disagreements, the committees may be constituted in batches.

According to him, the first batch would be announced hopefully by this weekend and appealed to elders and leaders to support the state Government’s efforts at putting the necessary structures in place at the Councils. He assured that election into the Councils would be held as soon as the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) was reconstituted.

Governor Uduaghan urged the newly sworn in Chairman to ensure that workers salary were paid promptly and reiterated the need for Local government to live up to their primary objective of bringing development to the grassroots. He stressed that if they were doing well in the areas of security and infrastructure, the burden would be less on the state government.

Responding, Chief Otide thanked the Governor for the opportunity given him to serve the people of Ughelli South and promised to align himself with the PDP manifesto and the three point agenda of the state government. It would be recalled that the former Chairman of Ughelli South Council Area, Chief Dennis Diomah, died on the 26th of last month. A minute silence was observed in his honour
