| PRESS RELEASE UDUAGHAN SEEKS INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS AID IN CAPACITY BUILDING Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has invited international organizations in the country to assist States in capacity building so that the procurement reform in the public sector management could be realized. Dr. Uduaghan who made the call when the UNDP representative in the country paid him a courtesy call in Asaba said capacity building was central to due process and the anti-corruption crusade. He said the UNDP programme titled "Capacity for Governance was timely and would form a strong pillar in the effective implementation of procurement. The Governor described capacity building as the key for good governance and expressed governments preparedness to religiously execute it. While assuring the UNDP representative that the State would participate in all the agency's programmes, Dr. Uduaghan promised to ensure that the counterpart fund was promptly paid. He said the youth empowerment programme of the State government was already a success even as he explained that the present effort would redirect the energy of the youth to positive ventures. He expressed appreciation to the UNDP representative for including the State in its entire programme. The UNDP representative in the country Mr. Alberic Kacou in his remarks said his organization has mapped out six new programmes for the next four years to improve the well-being of Nigerians. Mr. Kacou outlined the programmes which he said would run from 2009 to 2012 to include Economic Governance Programme, Capacity for Governance Programme, Private Sector Development Programme and Sustainability and Risk Management programme among others. He commended Delta State for identifying with previous programmes even as he said that the State was retained in UNDP programmes as a result of its spectacular performance. The UNDP representative appealed to States selected in the federation to complement the organizations effort and promote the participatory philosophy of the programmes. Mr. Kacou described the youth empowerment programme of the State government as a huge success and commended the Governor for making adequate provision for the programme.
