PRESS RELEASE OF 30TH OCTOBER, 2007

The Commissioner in the Directorate of Youth Development Rev. (Mrs) Omalsola Williams has expressed Government appreciation to the people of Umutu for supporting government in bearing the extra cost for building the ultra modern Youth Skills Acquisition Complex still under construction in the area.

Rev. (Mrs) Omatsola Williams gave the commendation during an official inspection of Youth Development Centres in some parts of the state, on Thursday September 2711, 2007. The Commissioner, while inspecting the project, commended the people of the area For their kind initiative in joining hands with government to move the state forward and enjoined them not to relent in their efforts.

Speaking Further, Rev (Mrs) Williams said that it is the intension of government to complete all on-going projects across the state, adding that the centre when completed and put into use will play a pivotal role towards the development of youths in the area.

The Managing Director of the contracting firm handling the project Hon. Paul Okweh who conducted the Hon. Commissioner round the complex, disclosed that it is their projection that the Centre will serve as a technical College in future, adding that the architectural design of the centre is second to none in the State.

Meanwhile, the lion. Commissioner has ordered the contracting firm handling the Kokori Youth Skills Acquisition Centre still under constructing to mobilise back to site within the next two weeks or face necessary action.

The Commissioner frowned at the attitude of the contracting firm; Ogaga construction Nigeria Ltd towards the project and expressed dissatisfaction over the way the project is been handled.

According to the representative of the contracting firm they stopped work since January 2007 as a result of armed robbery attack on the contractor on site which resulted to the death of one of their workers. lie however promised to mobilise back to site within the next two weeks as ordered by the Commissioner.

Other Centres inspected the by the Hon. Commissioner included the Okpe Modern Youth centre , Egbokodo Youth Centre and the Warri Area office of the Directorate.

During an interview with the press, she called on all the Youths in the state to cooperate and support the policies, and programmes of the Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan led administration in order to achieve rapid development in the state.

She added that they should shun violence and embrace peace in order to move the Slate forward. Top Management staff of the Directorate including the Acting Permanent Secretary Mr. Christ Ikah, Director of Administration and Finance Mr Emma Yugbovwre amongst others, accompanied the Hon. Commissioner on the tour.

Youths in the state have been charged to utilize the opportunity given to them by government in making themselves relevant through acquiring skills in the different Youth Centers built across the state in order for them to contribute positively towards the economic growth of the state.

The charge was given by the honourable commissioner in the Directorate of Youth Development Rev. (Mrs.) Omatsola Williams during the second day of her inspection visit to Youth skills acquisition centers across the state on Friday September 28, 2007.

Rev. (Mrs.) Omatsola Williams while inspecting facilities at the Modern Youth Learning Resource Center, Sapele expressed happiness over the organizational structure of the center, adding that the state Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is according recognition to Youths in the state in order for them to benefit from his programmes.

Speaking further, she urged those undergoing training at the Center to cultivate good moral behavioural attitudes in order for them to succeed in their chosen profession. She advised the participants, particularly those at the Information Technology Department to tap from the advantages of the Internet and warned them against using the Internet for committing fraud and browsing through pornographic websites, saying that such acts are unholy.

The Center which was donated by the Delta State government and supported by UNICEF and SIDA has different departments including Catering, Fashion and Design, Hair Dressing and Center for free HIV voluntary testing and counseling. Others include the Library Department, Electrical/Mechanical, Information Technology and a Furniture Workshop.

In an address presented by the Administrator of the Resource Center, Mr. Augustine Dafiowho, congratulated the Hon. Commissioner on her well deserved appointment, pointing out that about 256 Youths are presenting undertaking vocational skill training in various departments while a total of 5,023 Youths have so far involved through the Center.

While appreciating the efforts and contributions of the state government, UNICEF and SIDA in the development of Youths in the state, Mr. Dafitowho said that the Center is desirous of government attention in the areas of sport Pavilion and sport facilities, equipping the Library with books and the provision of an official vehicle amongst other demands.

Responding, Commissioner Williams promised to look into their demands, adding that urgent steps would be taken in giving adequate attention to their requests in order for the Center to meet up with its numerous challenges.

Other places visited by the Commissioner included the IN EC Electoral Institute located at Oghara, a former Youth Skill Acquisition Center donated by the State government to the Electoral body and the Youth Office at Sapele.

The Delta State Government has assured the people of Ubeji Community in Warri South Local Government Council, Government determination in resolving the impending face off between the Community and the Warri Refinery Petrochemical Company (WRPC) in order to fall stall any crisis.

The assurance was given by the Honourable Commissioner in the Directorate of Youth Development Rev (Mrs) Omatsola Williams during an official visit to Ubeji community where she spoke with the Youths and community leaders on Monday September 24, 2007.

Rev. (Mrs) Omatsola Williams who was accompanied on the visit by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Oil and Gas Barr. David Ekereokosu and his counterpart in Land Security, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori (JP) commended the people of the community especially the Youths for their calmness and for not taking the laws into their hands.

Speaking further, the Honourable Commissioner said she was attracted by the peaceful protest they staged against the Warri Refinery Petrochemical by the community youths and reiterated government determination in improving the lives of Deltans through the three point agenda of Governor Uduaghan.

She enjoined the people of the community to have total confidence on the Governor Uduaghan's led administration, adding that they should not loss hope as the state government will come to their aid.

Earlier, Hon. Gibson Omatsola who spoke on behalf of the community commended the state Governor for his prompt visit and intervention and solicited for more assistance and adequate compensation from the company. He also added that relief materials should be provided to his people to save them from hunger and starvation.

Hon. Gibson added that the condensate spill from tank 06 and the incessant oil spillage from the company were not as a result of vandalisation but rather an outright negligence on the part of the management of the Petrochemical Company. He later called on both the state Emergency Relief Agency and the National Emergency Relief Agency to come to their rescue.

Similarly, Commissioner Williams during a courtesy call on Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri has called on all Deltans especially the Youths to come out en mass to be part of the first edition of the Youth Liberation Night which the Directorate is organising in collaboration with the Youth Wing Of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) on Friday September 28, 2007 at the First Baptist Church, Warri at 10pm.
