Secretary to the State Government

Born on April 10, 1964 in Jos, Plateau State, to Ogbueshi Albert Ukah of Umuomake Village, Obodogwugwu Quarters in Okpanam and Veronica Ukah (nee Elueze) of Ogbe Owelle in Ibusa; Chief Patrick Ogoegbunam Ukah is the current Secretary to the State Government, Delta State, Nigeria. He is a communication and public relations expert, an astute marketer, renowned Nigerian athlete and sports administrator.

Chief Ukah graduated from the prestigious University of Ife with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Health Education, MBA from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife and an Executive Programme OMP4 from the Lagos Business School. He is a Fellow, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN); Fellow, National Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria (NISMN); Member, Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON); Member, Sports Writer’s Association of Nigeria (SWAN); Member, National Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and Member, Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC).

With a proven track record delivering excellence in marketing communication; he was the Managing Director, Ventolite Group of Companies and Pearl Studios and Entertainment Limited, until his appointment as the Honourable Commissioner for Information. He was equally the Executive Producer and host of Sports Market TV Programme and the Publisher of Sports Market International Magazine. He also has a wealth of exposure and experience in sports administration: he was the Chairman, Delta State Hockey Association; President, Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF); Board Member Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC); Chairman, NOC Marketing Commission; Chairman, NHF Marketing Committee; Founding chairman, Sports Marketing Guild of Nigeria; AGM Games Service, Abuja 2003 All-Africa Games, amongst others. He was very instrumental to gaining media rights for 2012 Olympic broadcast in Nigeria.

He is a prominent member of Oganihu Anioma where he served as Secretary General for many years, excelling in strong advocacy for equity and justice. Other exploits include a Merit Award from Jaycee International.

As a core strategist, he brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and sportsmanship discipline to institutions.

On the political front, in 2011, Ukah ran for the seat of member representing Oshimili North constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly. His exploit would further endear him to be deeply rooted in grassroots politics.

In 2015, the Delta State House of Assembly confirmed him as a Commissioner and member of the Executive Council of Delta State Government. He was subsequently sworn-in as the Delta State Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Information.

In 2019, he was confirmed a Commissioner by the Delta State House of Assembly and sworn-in as the Delta State Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

In 2021, he was appointed as the Secretary to the State Government.

As a man deeply passionate about his culture and heritage, in March 2018, Chief Ukah took the Alor title of Okpanam. It is in recognition of his developmental activities and his unalloyed respect and loyalty to the constituted Okpanam authority that he was found worthy to be conferred with the rare title, the “AKATAKPO ENYI 1” of Okpanam Kingdom.

Chief Patrick Ogoegbunam Ukah is happily married to Mrs. Uche Perpetua Ukah Esq. and blessed with three children: Afomachukwu, Chukwufunanya and Chukwunaza. His hobbies are sports and politics. He is an apostle of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s political philosophy.

Delta State (recognized on August 27, 1991) is an oil and agricultural producing state in Nigeria. It is situated in the region known as the South-South geo-political zone with a population of 4,112,445 (males: 2,069,309; females: 2,043,136). The capital city is Asaba, located at the northern end of the state, with an estimated area of 762 square kilometres (294 sq mi), while Warri is the economic nerve center of the state and also the most populated. It is located in the southern end of the state. The state has a total land area of 16,842 square kilometres (6,503 sq mi).
